Acura’s Intriguing First Step into Electrification: Unveiling the ZDX EV

A look into Acura's first electric vehicle, the 2024 ZDX EV, set to make its grand debut at Monterey Car Week on August 17th, with a tantalizing teaser leaving us wanting more.

Honda’s prestigious sub-brand, Acura, known for its luxury and performance-oriented vehicles, has ignited the excitement of electric vehicle (EV) enthusiasts with a tantalizing teaser of its very first all-electric model, the 2024 ZDX EV. Though the teaser only reveals a shadowed silhouette, highlighting an enigmatic illuminated grille, it does more than enough to set the stage for the vehicle’s official unveiling on August 17th during the renowned Monterey Car Week.

Crafted at the Acura Design Studio in sunny Southern California, the 2024 ZDX EV appears to retain some stylistic cues from the Precision EV Concept that Acura proudly showcased at the same event last year. What makes the ZDX truly unique in Acura’s lineup is its foundation on GM’s Ultium battery platform, marking it as potentially one of the few, if not the sole, Acura models to utilize this modular EV architecture.

The ZDX isn’t merely about aesthetics and performance; it’s also shaping up to be a technological marvel. Announced back in June, Acura confirmed that the ZDX would integrate Android Auto alongside other Google products. Owners are to be treated to an enriched Google Maps experience, offering optimized routes with conveniently located charging stations, and even estimates on charging times required to reach the intended destination. Further enhancing the driving experience, Acura’s partnership with Google will allow hands-free controls via Google Assistant and the ability to download third-party apps through Google Play onto the car’s infotainment system. As if that weren’t enough, a premium Bang & Olufsen audio system will be standard, adding an acoustic elegance to the interior.

In an innovative approach to sales, Acura will exclusively sell the ZDX and the high-performance ZDX Type S versions online starting early next year. Emile Korkor, assistant vice president of Acura National Sales, infused some exhilaration into the mix by proclaiming the ZDX Type S to be “the most powerful and quickest accelerating SUV in the brand’s history.”
